How to Make Milk Dinner Rolls: A Simple Guide

Milk dinner rolls are soft, fluffy, and subtly sweet, perfect as a side for meals or a quick snack. Here’s an easy recipe to guide you.

Ingredients:

- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

- 1 cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)

- 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast

- ¼ cup sugar

- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

- 1 large egg

- ½ tsp salt

Steps:

1. Activate yeast: Mix warm milk, 1 tbsp sugar, and yeast in a bowl. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.

2. Combine dough: In a large bowl, whisk flour, remaining sugar, salt, and egg. Pour in yeast mixture and melted butter. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.

3. Knead: Turn dough onto a floured surface. Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add flour sparingly if sticky.

4. First rise: Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours until doubled.

5. Shape & second rise: Punch down dough, divide into 12 equal pieces, and roll into balls. Place in a greased baking pan. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.

6. Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 18–20 minutes until golden. Brush tops with melted butter for extra softness.

Enjoy warm rolls with butter or jam! Variations: add raisins, cinnamon, or a sprinkle of sea sugar before baking.
