Wonton soup, or "Yuanbao wonton" (named for its gold-ingot shape), is a beloved Chinese dish. Here’s a simple guide to making it from scratch.
For the Wrappers: Mix 200g all-purpose flour with a pinch of salt. Gradually add 80ml warm water, knead into a smooth dough, and rest for 30 minutes. Roll into a thin sheet, then cut into 8cm squares.
For the Filling: Combine 150g ground pork (or shrimp) with 1 tbsp light soy sauce, ½ tsp sesame oil, 1 minced green onion, and a pinch of white pepper. Mix well until sticky.
Assembling: Place 1 tsp filling in the center of each wrapper. Fold diagonally, wet the edges with water, and press to seal. Bring the two corners together to form a "yuanbao" shape.
Cooking: Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add wontons and cook for 3-4 minutes until they float. For soup, serve in hot broth with chopped greens, seaweed, or a dash of chili oil. Enjoy this comforting dish, perfect for any meal!
