How to Make Red Bean Paste Crispy Bites: A Complete Guide

Red bean paste crispy bites are a beloved treat, combining flaky pastry with sweet red bean paste. Here’s a simple, step-by-step guide to making them at home.

Ingredients:

For the pastry: 150g all-purpose flour, 80g cold butter (cut into cubes), 1 tbsp sugar, 5ml cold water.

For the filling: 200g red bean paste (store-bought or homemade), 1 egg yolk (for glazing).

Steps:

1. Make the pastry: Mix flour, sugar, and cold butter. Rub until crumbly. Add water gradually, knead into a smooth dough. Wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

2. Prepare the filling: Divide the red bean paste into small balls (about 10g each).

3. Assemble: Roll the dough into a 5mm-thick sheet. Cut into 5cm circles. Place a red bean paste ball in the center, fold the dough over, and seal the edges. Use a fork to press patterns.

4. Bake: Preheat the oven to 180°C. Brush the tops with egg yolk. Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.

Tips: For extra flakiness, use “laminated dough” by folding butter into the dough twice. Ensure the dough is well-chilled for crispier layers. Serve warm or at room temperature.

These crispy bites are perfect with tea or as a dessert. Enjoy the sweet, buttery goodness in every bite!
