How to Make Coconut Buns: A Simple Guide

Coconut buns are soft, fluffy, and subtly sweet, perfect for breakfast or a snack. Here’s an easy recipe to make them at home.

Ingredients:

- 300g all-purpose flour

- 30g sugar

- 2.5g active dry yeast

- 1 egg

- 120ml warm milk

- 30g butter (softened)

- Pinch of salt

- For the filling: 100g coconut flakes, 50g condensed milk, and 1 tsp vanilla extract.

Steps:

1. Activate yeast: Mix yeast with warm milk and 1 tsp sugar. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.

2. Make dough: In a bowl, combine flour, salt, and remaining sugar. Add the egg and yeast mixture. Knead into a smooth dough, then add softened butter and knead until elastic.

3. First rise: Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for 1-2 hours until doubled.

4. Prepare filling: Mix coconut flakes, condensed milk, and vanilla until sticky.

5. Shape buns: Punch down dough, divide into 8-10 balls. Flatten each, add a spoonful of filling, and seal edges. Place on a baking tray.

6. Second rise: Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.

7. Bake: Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake for 15-18 minutes until golden. Brush with melted butter for extra shine.

Cool slightly and enjoy these tender, coconutty treats! They’re best eaten fresh but stay soft for 2 days in an airtight container.
