How to Make Crispy Tofu Balls: A Step-by-Step Guide

Tofu balls, a beloved snack in many Asian cuisines, are crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and incredibly versatile. Here’s a simple yet delicious recipe to make them at home.

Ingredients:

- 300g firm tofu, pressed and crumbled

- 1 egg, lightly beaten

- 2 tbsp cornstarch

- 1 tbsp all-purpose flour

- 1 green onion, finely chopped

- 1 clove garlic, minced

- 1 tsp soy sauce

- ½ tsp white pepper

- Oil for deep-frying

Instructions:

1. Prepare the mixture: In a bowl, combine crumbled tofu, beaten egg, cornstarch, flour, green onion, garlic, soy sauce, and white pepper. Mix thoroughly until a thick, sticky forms. If the mixture is too wet, add a little more flour.

2. Shape the balls: Wet your hands slightly to prevent sticking. Take a tablespoon of the mixture and roll it into a 1-inch ball. Repeat until all the mixture is used.

3. Deep-fry: Heat oil in a wok or deep pot to 350°F (175°C). Carefully drop the tofu balls into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for 3-4 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crispy.

4. Drain and serve: Use a slotted spoon to remove the balls and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as sweet chili sauce or soy-vinegar mix.

Tips: For extra flavor, add grated carrots or minced mushrooms to the mixture. Enjoy these crispy delights as an appetizer or snack!
