How to Make Stuffed Tofu: A Comprehensive Guide

Stuffed tofu, or "dofu nao," is a beloved dish that blends silky tofu with savory meat, offering a perfect mix of textures and flavors. Here’s a simple yet delicious recipe to try at home.

Ingredients:

- 1 block of firm tofu (pressed to remove excess water)

- 200g ground pork (or chicken, shrimp for a variation)

- 2 cloves garlic (minced)

- 1 tbsp soy sauce

- 1 tsp sesame oil

- 1 egg (for binding)

- Salt, pepper, and chopped green onions to taste

- Oil for frying

Steps:

1. Prepare the filling: Mix ground meat with minced garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, egg, salt, pepper, and green onions. Stir until well combined.

2. Hollow the tofu: Carefully cut the tofu into thick rectangles. Use a small knife to scoop out a pocket in the center of each piece, leaving a 0.5cm border.

3. Stuff the tofu: Gently fill each tofu pocket with the meat mixture, mounding it slightly on top.

4. Cook: Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Pan-fry the stuffed tofu for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown. For a softer texture, you can also steam them for 15 minutes before pan-frying.

5. Serve: Drizzle with extra soy sauce or a sweet chili sauce. Garnish with more green onions and sesame seeds.

This dish is versatile—try adding mushrooms or water chestnuts to the filling for extra flavor. Enjoy it as a main course or a hearty side!
