How to Make Braised Chicken with Chestnuts

Braised Chicken with Chestnuts is a comforting, savory dish that combines tender chicken with sweet, nutty chestnuts, perfect for cozy meals. Here’s a simple guide to making it:

Ingredients: 500g chicken thighs (cut into pieces), 200g peeled chestnuts (fresh or canned), 3 ginger slices, 2 garlic cloves, 1 green onion, 2 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp oyster sauce, 1 tsp sugar, 500ml water, and a pinch of salt.

Steps:

1. Prep the chicken: Rinse and pat dry the chicken pieces. Marinate them with 1 tbsp soy sauce, ginger, and garlic for 15 minutes.

2. Sear the chicken: Heat oil in a pot over medium heat. Add the chicken and sear until golden brown on all sides.

3. Simmer: Pour in water, remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sugar. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes.

4. Add chestnuts: Toss in the chestnuts and cook for another 15–20 minutes until the chicken is tender and the sauce thickens slightly.

5. Finish: Adjust salt to taste. Garnish with chopped green onion before serving.

Tips: For extra flavor, use roasted chestnuts. If using canned chestnuts, add them later to avoid overcooking. Serve hot with steamed rice for a satisfying meal!
