How to Make Delicious Chicken and Yam Soup

Chicken and yam soup is a nourishing dish loved for its simplicity and health benefits. Here’s a step-by-step guide to making it perfectly.

First, gather ingredients: 1 whole chicken (about 1.2 kg), 500 g fresh yams, 3-5 red dates, 10 dried goji berries, ginger slices, salt, and optional ingredients like carrots or mushrooms for extra flavor.

Start by prepping the ingredients: Rinse the chicken, cut into pieces, and blanch in boiling water for 3 minutes to remove impurities. Peel and dice the yams into chunks (soak in water to prevent browning). Soak red dates and goji berries in warm water until soft.

Next, cook the soup: Place the blanched chicken, ginger, red dates, and 2 liters of water in a pot. Bring to a boil, then simmer over low heat for 40 minutes. Add the yams and goji berries, continue simmering for 20–30 minutes until the yams are tender and the chicken is fall-off-the-bone.

Season with a pinch of salt (or light soy sauce for depth) and serve hot. For a richer broth, simmer the chicken alone first, then add yams to avoid overcooking.

This soup is warm, comforting, and packed with nutrients—perfect for cold days or when you need a wholesome meal. Enjoy its delicate flavor and health-boosting properties!
