Braised Pork Belly with Potatoes: A Step-by-Step Guide

Braised pork belly with potatoes is a comforting, savory dish loved worldwide. Here’s a simple yet delicious recipe to achieve tender meat and melt-in-your-mouth potatoes.

Ingredients:

500g pork belly (cut into 2cm cubes), 2 potatoes (peeled and halved), 3 tbsp soy sauce, 2 tbsp sugar, 1 tbsp cooking wine, 1 cinnamon stick, 2 star anise, 1 ginger slice, 3 garlic cloves, and water.

Steps:

1. Prepare the pork: Boil the pork cubes in boiling water for 3 minutes to remove impurities. Rinse and set aside.

2. Sear the meat: Heat oil in a pot over medium heat. Add pork and stir-fry until golden brown. Add ginger, garlic, cinnamon, and star anise until fragrant.

3. Simmer: Pour in soy sauce, sugar, and cooking wine. Stir to coat the meat evenly. Add enough water to cover the pork. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 40 minutes.

4. Add potatoes: Place potatoes into the pot. Simmer for another 20–25 minutes until both pork and potatoes are soft. Adjust seasoning with salt if needed.

5. Thicken the sauce: Remove cinnamon and star anise. Increase heat slightly to reduce the sauce until it thickens slightly, coating the ingredients.

Serve hot with steamed rice. The combination of rich, fatty pork and creamy potatoes makes this dish a family favorite!
