How to Make Perfect Cream Puffs: A Step-by-Step Guide

Cream puffs, with their light, airy shells and creamy fillings, are a beloved dessert. Here’s a simple guide to making them from scratch.

Ingredients: For the choux pastry, you’ll need 1 cup water, ½ cup unsalted butter, 1 cup all-purpose flour, 4 large eggs, and a pinch of salt. For the cream filling, 1 cup heavy cream, ¼ cup powdered sugar, and 1 tsp vanilla extract work best.

Steps:

1. Make the choux pastry: Heat water and butter in a saucepan until boiling. Remove from heat, add flour all at once, and stir vigorously until a dough forms. Let it cool slightly, then beat in eggs one by one until the batter is smooth and glossy.

2. Bake: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Drop spoonfuls of dough onto a baking lined with parchment paper. Bake for 20–25 minutes until puffed and golden. Turn off the heat, let them sit for 5 minutes to dry out, then cool completely.

3. Prepare the cream: Whip heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla until stiff peaks form.

4. Assemble: Slice the cooled puffs in half, pipe or spoon the cream into the bottom, and replace the top. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Enjoy these delicate, homemade cream puffs—they’re simpler to make than they look!
