How to Make Homemade Ice Cream: A Simple Guide

Making homemade ice cream is a fun and rewarding treat that requires just a few basic ingredients and tools. Here’s a simple guide to get you started.

First, gather your ingredients: 2 cups of heavy cream, 1 cup of whole milk, ¾ cup of sugar, and 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract. For variations, add cocoa powder for chocolate, fruit purée for strawberry, or crushed cookies for a twist.

Next, prepare the base. In a bowl, whisk together the milk and sugar until the sugar dissolves. Then, gently fold in the heavy cream and vanilla extract. Avoid overmixing to keep the texture light.

Now, chill the mixture for at least 4 hours (or overnight) to enhance the flavor and ensure a creamy texture. Once chilled, pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions, usually 20–30 minutes, until it thickens.

If you don’t have an ice cream maker, pour the mixture into a shallow dish and freeze for 1 hour. Then, whisk vigorously every 30 minutes for 2–3 hours to break up ice crystals.

Finally, transfer the ice cream to an airtight container and freeze for 4–6 hours until firm. Enjoy your customizable, delicious homemade ice cream!
