How to Make Raisin Bread: A Simple Guide

Raisin bread, a beloved treat with its sweet, chewy texture and warm aroma, is surprisingly easy to make at home. Here’s a basic recipe to get you started.

Ingredients:

- 3 cups all-purpose flour

- 1 cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)

- 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast

- ¼ cup sugar

- ½ tsp salt

- 2 eggs, beaten

- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted

- 1 cup raisins (soaked in warm water for 10 minutes, then drained)

Steps:

1. Activate yeast: Mix warm milk, 1 tsp sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.

2. Combine dough: In a large bowl, whisk flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Add yeast mixture, eggs, and melted butter. Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

3. First rise: Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours until doubled.

4. Shape: Punch down dough, knead in raisins, and divide into two loaves. Place in greased pans.

5. Second rise: Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.

6. Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 30–35 minutes until golden. Brush tops with melted butter for extra shine.

Variations: Add cinnamon, nuts, or orange zest for flavor. Enjoy toasted with butter or as a sweet snack!
