Beer Eggs

How to Make Beer Eggs: A Simple Guide

Beer eggs, a beloved savory snack, combine the richness of eggs with the malty depth of beer. Here’s a straightforward method to perfect this dish.

Ingredients: 6-8 eggs, 1 bottle (330ml) of lager or dark beer, 3-4 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp sugar, 1 cinnamon stick, 2 star anise, 1 sliced ginger, 2 cloves of garlic (smashed), and 1 tbsp cooking oil.

Steps:

1. Boil eggs: Place eggs in cold water, bring to a boil, then simmer for 7 minutes. Cool, peel, and score lightly with a fork for better flavor absorption.

2. Sauté aromatics: Heat oil in a pot, stir-fry ginger, garlic, cinnamon, and star anise until fragrant.

3. Simmer in beer: Add eggs, pour in beer and soy sauce, then add sugar. Bring to a gentle boil, reduce heat, and cover. Simmer for 20-30 minutes, turning eggs occasionally.

4. Rest and serve: Turn off heat, let eggs steep in the liquid for at least 1 hour (overnight for deeper flavor). Reheat before serving, garnished with green onions.

Variations: For a spicier kick, add chili flakes; for a sweeter note, use honey instead of sugar. Enjoy these tender, flavorful eggs as a snack or side dish!
