How to Make Milk Bread Rolls: A Simple Guide

Milk bread rolls, known for their soft texture, milky flavor, and golden crust, are a beloved homemade treat. Here’s a straightforward recipe to achieve bakery-quality results at home.

Ingredients: For 12 rolls, you’ll need 300ml warm milk, 40g sugar, 7g active dry yeast, 500g bread flour, 5g salt, 50g unsalted butter (softened), and 1 egg (for egg wash).

Steps:

1. Activate yeast: Mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.

2. Combine dough: In a large bowl, whisk flour and salt. Add yeast mixture and egg, then knead until a smooth, elastic forms (about 10 minutes). Gradually add butter, kneading until fully incorporated.

3. First rise: Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot until doubled (1–1.5 hours).

4. Shape rolls: Punch down dough, divide into 12 equal portions, and roll each into a ball. Place on a baking sheet, cover, and proof for 30 minutes.

5. Bake: Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Brush rolls with egg wash and bake for 20–25 minutes until golden. Cool slightly before serving.

Tips: For extra flavor, add vanilla extract or a pinch of nutmeg. Enjoy these rolls plain, with butter, or as a base for sandwiches!
