How to Make Shiitake Mushroom and Tofu: A Comprehensive Guide

Shiitake mushroom and tofu is a nutritious and versatile dish loved for its umami-rich flavor and health benefits. Here’s a simple yet delicious recipe to try:

Ingredients:

- 200g firm tofu, cubed

- 150g fresh shiitake mushrooms, stems removed and sliced

- 2 cloves garlic, minced

- 1 tbsp soy sauce

- 1 tsp oyster sauce (optional)

- 1/2 tsp sesame oil

- Salt and pepper to taste

- Green onions for garnish

- 1 tbsp vegetable oil

Instructions:

1. Prepare the tofu: Press the tofu to remove excess water, then cut into 1-inch cubes. Lightly pan-fry until golden on all sides for a firmer texture (optional).

2. Sauté the mushrooms: Heat oil in a wok over medium heat. Add garlic and stir-fry until fragrant. Add shiitake mushrooms and cook until tender, about 3–4 minutes.

3. Combine and season: Add the tofu to the wok. Pour in soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sesame oil. Stir gently to coat evenly. Season with salt and pepper.

4. Simmer and serve: Cook for 2–3 minutes, allowing flavors to meld. Garnish with chopped green onions. Serve hot with rice or noodles.

Variations:

- For a spicier kick, add chili flakes or a dash of Sriracha.

- Mix in vegetables like bell peppers or spinach for extra nutrition.

- Replace soy sauce with tamari for a gluten-free version.
