Red Bean Toast

How to Make Red Bean Bread: A Comprehensive Guide

Red bean bread, a beloved Asian treat, combines soft, fluffy bread with sweet red bean paste. Here’s a simple guide to making it at home.

Ingredients: For the dough, you’ll need 300g bread flour, 30g sugar, 3g salt, 8g instant yeast, 1 egg, 150ml milk, and 30g butter. For the filling, use 200g sweet red bean paste (store-bought or homemade).

Steps:

1. Prepare the dough: Mix flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Add egg and milk, knead into a smooth dough. Incorporate softened butter and knead until elastic. Let it rise in a warm place for 1–2 hours until doubled.

2. Shape the bread: Punch down the dough, divide into 6 equal portions. Roll each into a ball, flatten, and wrap 2-3 tbsp red bean paste inside. Seal tightly to prevent leakage.

3. Proof and bake: Place the filled buns on a baking tray, cover, and let them rise for 30 minutes. Brush with egg wash, then bake at 180°C (350°F) for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.

Tips: For extra flavor, add a pinch of matcha powder to the dough. Enjoy fresh or lightly toasted for a crispy crust. This versatile recipe can also be adapted with other fillings like custard or chocolate. Happy baking!
