Sweet and Sour Tofu: A Culinary Guide

Sweet and sour tofu is a beloved dish that balances tangy, sweet, and savory flavors with a crispy yet tender texture. Here’s a simple guide to making it at home.

Ingredients:

- 1 block firm tofu, pressed and cubed

- 2 tbsp vegetable oil

- 1 bell pepper, diced

- 1/2 onion, sliced

- 3 tbsp ketchup

- 2 tbsp rice vinegar

- 1 tbsp soy sauce

- 1 tbsp sugar

- 1 tsp cornstarch (mixed with 2 water)

- Sesame seeds and green onions for garnish (optional)

Steps:

1. Prepare the tofu: Press tofu to remove excess water, then cut into 1-inch cubes. Lightly dust with cornstarch and pan-fry in oil until golden on all sides. Set aside.

2. Make the sauce: In a bowl, mix ketchup, rice vinegar, soy sauce, sugar, and cornstarch slurry until smooth.

3. Stir-fry: Sauté bell pepper and onion in the same pan until softened. Pour in the sauce and cook until thickened.

4. Combine: Return tofu to the pan, gently toss to coat, and cook for 1-2 minutes. Garnish with sesame seeds or green onions.

Serve hot with steamed rice for a complete meal. This versatile dish can be customized with veggies like pineapple or carrots for extra sweetness and crunch. Enjoy this restaurant favorite in the comfort of your home!
