How to Make Stuffed Bitter Melon: A Step-by-Step Guide

Stuffed bitter melon, a nutritious and flavorful dish, balances the vegetable’s unique bitterness with savory meat. Here’s a simple recipe to guide you.

Ingredients: 2 medium bitter melons, 200g ground pork (or chicken), 2 cloves minced garlic, 1 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tsp oyster sauce, 1/2 tsp sugar, salt, pepper, and vegetable oil for stir-frying.

Steps:

1. Prepare the bitter melon: Rinse and cut into 3-4 cm rings. Scoop out seeds and pith with a spoon to reduce bitterness. Soak in salted water for 15 minutes, then rinse and pat dry.

2. Make the filling: Mix ground pork, garlic, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, salt, and pepper until well combined.

3. Stuff the melon: Fill each bitter melon ring with the pork mixture, pressing gently to secure.

4. Cook: Heat oil in a pan. Stir-fry stuffed melon over medium heat for 2 minutes per side until lightly browned. Add 1/4 cup water, cover, and simmer for 10-15 minutes until the meat is cooked through.

5. Serve: Drizzle with remaining sauce from the pan and garnish with cilantro.

For a richer flavor, you may add diced mushrooms or water chestnuts to the filling. Enjoy this healthy and delicious dish with rice!
