In summer, remember to warm the palace

Don't Forget to Warm Your Uterus This Summer

Summer’s heat often makes us crave coolness, but Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) warns that overexposure to cold can harm the uterus, especially for women. While air-conditioned rooms, iced drinks, and cold swims feel refreshing, they can disrupt blood circulation and lead to menstrual cramps, fatigue, or even fertility issues over time.

Warming the uterus in summer isn’t about avoiding all coolness but balancing it. Opt for warm or room-temperature drinks instead of iced ones. Wear light, breathable clothing to cover your lower abdomen when in heavily air-conditioned spaces. Foods like ginger, red dates, and lychee—naturally warming yet suitable for summer—can support uterine health.

Gentle practices like warm belly massages with sesame oil or soaking your feet in warm water before bed also promote blood flow. Staying active with yoga or walking prevents stagnation without overheating.

Listen to your body: even in summer, a little warmth goes a long way in maintaining long-term reproductive wellness.
