Cheese bacon rolls are a savory, crowd-pleasing snack perfect for breakfast, brunch, or gatherings. Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to making them from scratch.
Ingredients:
- 1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed)
- 6-8 slices of bacon, cooked until crispy
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)
- 1 egg (for washing)
- Optional: Fresh herbs (thyme, rosemary) or a pinch of black pepper.
Instructions:
1. Preheat the Oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
2. Prepare the Pastry: Unroll the puff pastry on a clean surface. If desired, lightly score a border around the edge, about 1cm inward, to create a frame.
3. Add Fillings: Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the pastry, leaving the border bare. Arrange crispy bacon slices in a single layer on top of the cheese.
4. Roll Tightly: Starting from one of the shorter sides, roll the pastry tightly like a jelly roll. Pinch the seam to seal and gently press the ends to close.
5. Slice and Arrange: Use a sharp knife to cut the roll into 1.5cm thick rounds. Place them cut-side up on the baking tray, spacing them slightly apart.
6. Bake: Brush the tops with the beaten egg for a golden finish. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
Serving Suggestion: Enjoy warm, plain or with a side of maple syrup or mustard for dipping. These rolls are best eaten fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven to crisp them up again.
