How to Make Egg Rolls: A Simple Guide

Egg rolls are a crispy, savory snack loved worldwide. Here’s a basic guide to making them at home.

First, prepare the filling. Sauté shredded cabbage, carrots, bell peppers, and minced garlic in a little oil until tender. Add cooked protein like diced pork, chicken, or tofu, along with soy sauce, a pinch of sugar, and a dash of sesame oil for flavor. Let it cool slightly.

Next, assemble the rolls. Place an egg roll wrapper flat on a diagonal. Add 2-3 tablespoons of filling near the bottom corner. Fold the bottom corner over the filling, tucking it in tightly. Fold in the two side corners, then roll tightly from the bottom to the top, sealing the edge with a little water or flour paste.

Finally, deep-fry the rolls. Heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry 2-3 rolls at a time for 3-4 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels. Serve hot with sweet chili sauce or duck sauce.

For variations, try adding bean sprouts, shrimp, or even mashed potatoes. Experiment with seasonings like five-spice powder for a unique twist. With simple steps and flexible ingredients, homemade egg rolls are a delicious treat for any occasion!
