How to Make Cute Pumpkin Mantou: A Step-by-Step Guide

Pumpkin mantou, soft, fluffy, and naturally orange-hued, are a delightful treat for all ages. Here’s a simple recipe to make these adorable steamed buns at home.

Ingredients:

- 200g all-purpose flour

- 100g steamed and mashed pumpkin (cooled)

- 2g active dry yeast

- 15g sugar

- 1 pinch of salt

- 30ml warm milk (or water)

Steps:

1. Activate the yeast: Mix yeast with warm milk and sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.

2. Prepare the dough: In a large bowl, combine mashed pumpkin, flour, salt, and yeast mixture. Knead into a smooth, soft dough (about 10 minutes). If sticky, add a little flour.

3. First rise: Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.

4. Shape the mantou: Punch down the dough and divide it into 6-8 equal portions. Roll each into a ball, then use a toothpick to create pumpkin-like ridges. For a stem, place a small piece of dough on top.

5. Second rise: Let the shaped mantou rest for 20 minutes.

6. Steam: Place them in a steamer lined with parchment paper. Steam over medium-high heat for 15 minutes. Turn off the heat and let them sit for 5 minutes before opening the lid.

Enjoy these sweet, nutritious pumpkin mantou as a breakfast snack or dessert! They pair perfectly with tea or coffee.
