Christmas tree bread is a festive, edible centerpiece perfect for holiday celebrations. Here’s a simple yet delicious recipe to create your own:
Ingredients:
- 500g all-purpose flour
- 250ml warm milk
- 50g sugar
- 7g active dry yeast
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 100g softened butter
- 2 eggs
- Pinch of salt
- Icing sugar for dusting (optional)
Steps:
1. Activate yeast: Mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
2. Prepare dough: In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, eggs, and vanilla. Pour in the yeast mixture and knead until smooth. Add butter gradually, kneading until the dough is elastic and no longer sticky.
3. First rise: Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1–2 hours until doubled.
4. Shape the tree: Punch down dough and divide into three portions. Roll each into a long rope, braid them together, and taper the ends to form a tree shape. Wrap the base into a trunk.
5. Second rise: Place on a baking sheet, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
6. Bake: Brush with egg wash for a golden finish. Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown. Cool completely, then dust with icing sugar.
Decorations (optional): Add sprinkles, glaze, or small candy ornaments. Serve warm with butter or jam for a delightful holiday treat!
