Sausage rolls are a beloved snack, crispy on the outside and savory on the inside. Here’s a simple guide to making them at home.
Ingredients: For the pastry, use 1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed). For the filling, mix 200g ground pork or chicken, 1 small diced onion, 1 tsp soy sauce, 1 tsp mustard, salt, pepper, and a pinch of herbs (thyme or parsley).
Steps:
1. Prepare the filling: Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Mix well until sticky.
2. Roll the pastry: On a floured surface, roll the pastry into a rectangle. Cut it into long strips (about 10cm wide).
3. Add filling: Place a sausage-shaped log of filling along the center of each strip. Brush the edges with beaten egg, then fold the pastry over to seal. Press firmly with a fork.
4. Bake: Preheat the oven to 200°C. Place the rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush with more egg wash for a golden finish. Bake for 15–20 minutes until puffed and golden.
Tips: For extra flavor, add grated cheese or a dash of Worcestershire sauce to the filling. Serve warm with ketchup or mustard. Enjoy your homemade sausage rolls!
