How to Make Braised Chicken Drumsticks: A Step-by-Step Guide

Braised chicken drumsticks, a beloved homestyle dish, are tender, savory, and slightly sweet. Here’s a simple yet delicious recipe to achieve perfection.

Ingredients:

- 8 chicken drumsticks (cleaned and patted dry)

- 3 tbsp soy sauce (divided)

- 2 tbsp cooking wine

- 1 tbsp sugar or honey

- 1 star anise

- 1 cinnamon stick (optional)

- 3 slices ginger

- 2 cloves garlic (smashed)

- Oil for searing

- Water or broth (enough to cover drumsticks)

Steps:

1. Marinate: Rub drumsticks with 1 tbsp soy sauce, cooking wine, and a pinch of salt. Let sit for 20 minutes.

2. Sear: Heat oil in a pot over medium-high heat. Add drumsticks and sear until golden on all sides (about 3-4 minutes per side). Remove and set aside.

3. Aromatics: In the same pot, sauté ginger, garlic, star anise, and cinnamon until fragrant (30 seconds).

4. Simmer: Return drumsticks to the pot. Add the remaining soy sauce, sugar/honey, and enough water to cover them. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low.

5. Braise: Cover and simmer for 25-30 minutes, occasionally flipping, until the sauce thickens and coats the drumsticks.

6. Garnish & Serve: Sprinkle with sesame seeds or chopped green onions. Enjoy hot with rice!

This dish balances umami and sweetness, making it a crowd-pleaser. Adjust sugar or soy sauce to suit your taste!
