How to Make Rose Flower Steamed Buns

Making rose flower steamed buns is a delightful way to combine baking art with culinary joy. Here’s a simple guide to create these visually appealing treats.

Ingredients: For the dough, you’ll need 300g all-purpose flour, 3g yeast, 15g sugar, 150ml warm milk, and a pinch of salt. For the filling, choose options like red bean paste, lotus seed paste, or a sweetened mixture of dried fruits and nuts.

Steps:

1. Prepare the dough: Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm milk, let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy. Mix with flour and salt, knead into a smooth dough. Cover and let it rise for 1 hour until doubled in size.

2. Make the filling: If using bean paste, skip this step. For fruit-nut filling, chop ingredients finely and mix with sugar to taste.

3. Shape the buns: Punch down the dough and divide into small balls (about 50g each). Flatten each ball, wrap a teaspoon of filling, and seal tightly.

4. Form the rose: Roll a small, unfilled dough ball into a circle (about 8cm diameter). Cut it into 8 equal wedges. Brush each wedge with a little water, overlap them slightly, and roll from the outer edge to form a spiral. Place the spiral in the center of the filled bun, pressing gently to adhere.

5. Proof and steam: Let the shaped buns rest for 20 minutes. Steam over high heat for 15 minutes, then turn off the heat and let them sit for 5 more minutes before opening the lid.

These buns are soft, fragrant, and perfect for breakfast or afternoon tea. Enjoy the process and savor your homemade floral masterpiece!
