Sweet and Sour Pork (Pineapple Gu Lao Rou) Recipe

Sweet and Sour Pork, or "Pineapple Gu Lao Rou," is a beloved Chinese dish known for its vibrant flavors and crispy texture. Here’s a simple guide to making it at home.

Ingredients:

500g pork loin, cut into 1.5-inch cubes; 1 cup pineapple chunks (fresh or canned); 1 bell pepper, sliced; 1 onion, cubed; 2 tbsp ketchup; 1 tbsp soy sauce; 1 tbsp vinegar; 2 tbsp sugar; 1 cup flour; 1 egg; oil for frying; salt and pepper to taste.

Steps:

1. Marinate the pork: Season pork with salt and pepper. In a bowl, mix flour and egg to form a batter. Coat each pork cube evenly and deep-fry at 180°C until golden and crispy (3-4 minutes). Drain excess oil.

2. Make the sauce: In a small pan, combine ketchup, soy sauce, vinegar, sugar, and 2 tbsp water. Simmer until the sugar dissolves, then set aside.

3. Stir-fry: Heat 1 tbsp oil in a wok. Sauté onion and bell pepper until tender. Add pineapple chunks and crispy pork, pour the sauce over, and toss quickly to coat everything evenly.

4. Serve: Dish out hot and garnish with sesame seeds if desired. Enjoy with steamed rice!

This dish balances sweet, tangy, and savory flavors, with the pineapple adding a refreshing twist. Perfect for family meals or gatherings!
