How to Make Delicious Shitake Mushroom Meatballs

Shitake mushroom meatballs are a savory and versatile dish, perfect for soups, stir-fries, or as a standalone snack. Here’s a simple guide to making them from scratch.

Ingredients:

- 500g ground pork or chicken

- 200g fresh shitake mushrooms, finely chopped

- 2 cloves garlic, minced

- 1 tbsp soy sauce

- 1 tsp sesame oil

- 1 egg (for binding)

- Salt, pepper, and a pinch of sugar to taste

- 2 tbsp cornstarch (for texture)

Steps:

1. Prepare the Mushrooms: Soak fresh shitake mushrooms in warm water for 20 minutes until soft. Drain, finely chop, and squeeze out excess moisture.

2. Mix the Ingredients: In a bowl, combine ground meat, chopped mushrooms, garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, egg, salt, pepper, sugar, and cornstarch. Mix thoroughly until the mixture becomes sticky.

3. Shape the Meatballs: Wet your hands with water to prevent sticking. Scoop a tablespoon of the mixture and roll it into a 1-inch ball. Repeat until all mixture is used.

4. Cook the Meatballs:

- Pan-fry: Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry meatballs until golden brown on all sides, about 4-5 minutes.

- Boil/Simmer: For soups, drop meatballs into boiling broth and cook for 10-12 minutes until fully done.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve hot with rice, noodles, or in hot and sour soup. For extra flavor, drizzle with chili oil or top with chopped scallions.

These meatballs are tender, flavorful, and packed with umami from the shitake mushrooms. Enjoy experimenting with this recipe!
