How to Make Spider Web Pancakes (Pansi Bing)

Spider Web Pancakes, or Pansi Bing, are a visually stunning and delicious Chinese breakfast snack named for their intricate, web-like pattern. Here’s a simple guide to making them:

Ingredients:

- 200g all-purpose flour

- 150ml warm water

- 1 tsp sugar

- ½ tsp salt

- 2 tsp oil (divided)

- Your favorite filling (e.g., scallion, red bean paste, or savory minced pork)

Steps:

1. Prepare the dough: Mix flour, sugar, salt, and 1 tsp oil. Gradually add warm water, kneading into a smooth dough. Let it rest for 30 minutes.

2. Divide and shape: Roll the dough into a log, cut into 6 equal portions, and flatten each into a circle. Brush with oil, sprinkle filling (if using), and roll up like a Swiss roll. Coil it into a spiral, tucking the end underneath.

3. Flatten and cook: Roll the coil into a 0.5cm-thick disk. Heat a pan over medium-low heat, add 1 tsp oil, and cook the pancake for 3–4 minutes per side until golden and crispy.

4. Create the web: Use a sharp knife to cut 8 radial lines from the center to the edge, leaving the center intact. Gently pull each section outward to form a web-like pattern.

Serving Tip: Enjoy them hot with soy sauce or a drizzle of honey for a sweet-savory twist! These pancakes are not only tasty but also a fun way to impress with their beautiful design.
