How to Make Braised Mushrooms and Tofu

Braised Mushrooms and Tofu is a simple yet nutritious dish that balances earthy mushrooms with silky tofu, perfect for a quick weeknight meal. Here’s a step-by-step guide to preparing it.

Ingredients:

- 200g fresh shiitake mushrooms, stems removed and caps sliced

- 1 block (300g) soft tofu, cut into 2cm cubes

- 2 cloves garlic, minced

- 1 tbsp soy sauce

- 1 tsp oyster sauce

- ½ tsp sugar

- 100ml vegetable broth or water

- 1 tbsp cooking oil

- Sesame seeds and chopped green onions for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

1. Prep the ingredients: Gently press the tofu to remove excess water. Pat the mushroom caps dry with a paper towel.

2. Sauté the mushrooms: Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Add the mushrooms and cook for 3–4 minutes until golden and tender. Remove and set aside.

3. Cook the tofu: In the same pan, add a little more oil if needed. Carefully add the tofu cubes and pan-fry for 2 minutes per side until lightly golden. Avoid stirring too much to prevent breaking.

4. Simmer together: Return the mushrooms to the pan. Add garlic, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, and broth. Stir gently to combine.

5. Finish and serve: Cover and simmer on low heat for 3–4 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld. Adjust seasoning if needed. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions before serving.

This dish pairs well with steamed rice and can be customized with vegetables like bell peppers or carrots. Enjoy your healthy and delicious homemade meal!
