How to Make Braised Pork Ribs with Chinese Yam

Braised pork ribs with Chinese yam is a nourishing and flavorful dish, perfect for family meals. Here’s a simple yet delicious recipe to guide you.

Ingredients: 500g pork ribs (cut into pieces), 300g Chinese yam (peeled and cut into chunks), 3 ginger slices, 2 green onions (cut), 1 tbsp cooking wine, 2 tbsp light soy sauce, 1 tbsp dark soy sauce, 1 tbsp sugar, a pinch of salt, and enough water to cover.

Steps:

1. Prepare the ribs: Soak ribs in cold water for 30 minutes to remove excess blood. Blanch them in boiling water with ginger and cooking wine for 5 minutes, then rinse and drain.

2. Sauté the ribs: Heat oil in a pot, add ginger and green onions until fragrant. Toss in the ribs and stir-fry until lightly browned.

3. Simmer: Add light/dark soy sauce and sugar, stir to coat evenly. Pour in enough water, bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 40 minutes.

4. Add yam: Add Chinese yam chunks, continue simmering for 20-25 minutes until the ribs are tender and the yam is soft. Adjust salt to taste.

5. Serve: Garnish with chopped green onions. Enjoy hot with steamed rice!

Tips: For richer flavor, use pork spare ribs with more fat. Chinese yam turns creamy when cooked, making the broth thick and comforting. This dish balances the ribs’ umami with the yam’s mild sweetness, offering a healthy and satisfying meal.
