Braised Pork Ribs with Lotus Root: A Culinary Guide

Braised pork ribs with lotus root is a nourishing and flavorful Chinese dish, loved for its tender meat, soft lotus root, and savory broth. Here’s a simple guide to making it:

Ingredients: 500g pork ribs, 300g fresh lotus root, 3 slices of ginger, 2 scallions, 1 tbsp cooking wine, 1 tbsp light soy sauce, 1 tbsp dark soy sauce, 1 tsp sugar, salt to taste, and water or broth.

Steps:

1. Prep the ingredients: Soak lotus root in water to prevent browning, then cut into 2cm thick rounds. Blanch ribs in boiling water for 3 minutes, rinse, and drain.

2. Sear the ribs: Heat oil in a pot, stir-fry ginger and scallions until fragrant. Add ribs, cooking wine, and light soy sauce, stir-frying until lightly browned.

3. Simmer: Pour in water or broth to cover the ingredients. Add dark soy sauce, sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 40 minutes.

4. Add lotus root: Place lotus root into the pot, simmer for another 20–30 minutes until both ribs and lotus root are tender. Adjust seasoning if needed.

5. Serve: Garnish with chopped scallions. Enjoy hot with steamed rice for a comforting meal.

This dish balances earthy lotus root with rich ribs, creating a wholesome and aromatic stew perfect for family gatherings.
