How to Make Marbled Loaf Bread: A Simple Guide

Marbled loaf bread, with its striking swirls of two colors, is a delightful treat that’s easier to make than it looks. Here’s a basic guide to crafting this visually appealing bread at home.

Ingredients & Dough Prep:

Start with a basic bread dough: 500g all-purpose flour, 300ml warm milk, 50g sugar, 5g salt, 7g instant yeast, and 50g melted butter. Mix until smooth, then knead for 10 minutes until elastic. Divide the dough into two equal portions.

Creating the Swirl:

Color one portion with 2-3 tbsp cocoa powder for a classic chocolate swirl, or use matcha powder for green, beetroot juice for pink, or turmeric for yellow. Roll each colored dough into a rectangle (about 20x15cm). Stack one on top of the other, then roll them up tightly like a jelly roll.

Proofing & Baking:

Place the rolled dough in a greased loaf pan, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise for 1-2 hours until doubled in size. Brush the top with milk or egg wash for a glossy finish. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 30-35 minutes until golden brown. Cool before slicing to reveal the beautiful marbled pattern.

Tips:

For vibrant colors, use gel food coloring. Customize flavors by adding chocolate chips, nuts, or dried fruits to the dough. Enjoy your homemade marbled toast, sandwiches, or French toast!
