How to Make Pumpkin Red Bean Buns: A Simple Guide

Pumpkin red bean buns are a delightful, healthy treat, blending the sweetness of red bean paste with the earthy flavor of pumpkin. Here’s an easy step-by-step guide to making them at home.

Ingredients:

For the dough: 300g mashed pumpkin (steamed and mashed), 300g all-purpose flour, 3g yeast, 30g sugar, 15g vegetable oil, and 120ml warm water. For the filling: 200g red bean paste (store-bought or homemade), plus a pinch of flour for dusting.

Steps:

1. Prepare the dough: Mix yeast and sugar in warm water, let sit for 5 minutes until foamy. Combine mashed pumpkin, flour, and yeast mixture, knead into a smooth dough. Add oil and knead until elastic. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

2. Make filling: If using homemade red bean paste, cook beans until soft, mash, and simmer with sugar until thick. Let cool completely.

3. Shape buns: Punch down the risen dough, divide into 12 equal balls. Flatten each, wrap 1.5 tbsp red bean paste, and pinch the edges to seal. Place on parchment paper, seam-side down.

4. Proof and steam: Let the buns rise for 20 minutes. Steam over high heat for 15 minutes. Turn off the heat and let them sit for 5 minutes before opening the lid.

Tips: For extra flavor, add a pinch of cinnamon to the dough. Serve warm for the best taste! These buns are perfect as a breakfast or snack, offering a comforting mix of textures and flavors.
