Golden Treasure: A Culinary Guide to "Jin Yu Man Tang"

"Jin Yu Man Tang" (金玉满堂), literally "Gold and Jade Filling the Hall," is a vibrant and auspicious Chinese dish symbolizing prosperity and abundance. Its name reflects its colorful ingredients: golden corn, jade-like peas, and ruby-red carrots, often stir-fried with savory meats or seafood. Here’s a simple guide to crafting this festive dish.

Basic Ingredients:

- 1 cup corn kernels (fresh or frozen)

- 1 cup diced carrots (for sweetness and color)

- 1 cup green peas (frozen works well)

- 200g diced chicken, shrimp, or ham (optional for protein)

- 3 cloves garlic, minced

- 2 tbsp cooking oil

- Salt, pepper, and a pinch of sugar to taste

Steps:

1. Prep: Dice carrots into small cubes. If using chicken/shrimp, marinate with soy sauce and starch for 10 minutes.

2. Stir-fry: Heat oil in a wok over high heat. Sauté garlic until fragrant. Add protein (if using) and cook until nearly done.

3. Combine: Toss in carrots and stir-fry for 2 minutes. Add corn and peas, cooking for another 2–3 minutes until veggies are crisp-tender.

4. Season: Drizzle with 1 tbsp soy sauce, a pinch of sugar, salt, and pepper. Mix well.

5. Thicken (Optional): For a glossy finish, mix 1 tsp cornstarch with 2 tbsp water, add to the wok, and stir until slightly thickened.

Serving: Dish out hot and garnish with sesame seeds or chopped scallions. This versatile dish pairs perfectly with steamed rice, making it a staple for celebrations or family dinners. Enjoy the harmony of flavors and the blessing of "gold and jade" on your table!
