How to Make Braised Chicken Wings: A Step-by-Step Guide

Braised chicken wings, a beloved Chinese dish, are tender, savory, and slightly sweet, perfect for any meal. Here’s a simple yet delicious recipe to recreate this classic at home.

Ingredients:

- 12 chicken wings

- 3 tbsp soy sauce

- 2 tbsp oyster sauce

- 1 tbsp sugar (or honey for glossiness)

- 1 cup water or broth

- 2 sliced garlic, 1 sliced ginger

- 1 star anise (optional)

- Cooking oil

Steps:

1. Prepare the wings: Rinse wings and pat dry. Score each wing lightly with a knife to help absorb flavors.

2. Sear the wings: Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add wings and sear until golden brown on both sides (about 3-4 minutes per side). Remove and set aside.

3. Make the sauce: In the same pan, sauté garlic and ginger until fragrant. Return wings to the pan. Add soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, and water/broth. Stir in the star anise if using.

4. Simmer: Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until wings are tender and the sauce thickens.

5. Glaze (optional): For a glossy finish, uncover and increase heat slightly, stirring occasionally, until the sauce coats the wings thickly.

Serve hot with steamed rice or as a snack. Enjoy the perfect balance of salty and sweet flavors!
