A Guide to Making Rose-Shaped Bread

Making rose-shaped bread is a delightful way to combine baking with art. Here’s a simple, step-by-step guide to create these beautiful floral treats.

Ingredients: For 6 roses, you’ll need 300g all-purpose flour, 100ml warm milk, 30g sugar, 30g butter (melted), 1 egg, 2.5g yeast, and a pinch of salt. For coloring, use red or pink food gel.

Steps:

1. Prepare the dough: Dissolve yeast in warm milk, then mix with flour, sugar, egg, and salt. Knead for 10 minutes until smooth. Add melted butter and knead until elastic. Divide into two portions; color one with pink gel.

2. Shape the roses: Roll each dough portion into a 20cm log. Cut the pink log into 6 equal slices; these form the rose petals. Cut the plain dough into 6 smaller slices for the base.

3. Assemble: Flatten each pink slice into a circle, place a plain slice in the center, and wrap the pink dough around it. Pinch the bottom to seal.

4. Proof and bake: Let roses rise for 30 minutes. Brush with egg wash, bake at 180°C for 15–20 minutes until golden.

Tips: For a richer flavor, add vanilla extract or a teaspoon of honey. Serve warm with butter or jam for a perfect breakfast or dessert. Enjoy the process and the stunning results!
