Angel Cake

Angel Food Cake: A Step-by-Step Guide

Angel food cake, known for its light, airy texture and delicate sweetness, is a classic dessert made with simple ingredients. Mastering it requires precision, but the results are worth it. Here’s a comprehensive guide:

Ingredients:

- 1 cup (125g) cake flour (sifted twice)

- 1 ½ cups (300g) granulated sugar

- 12 large egg whites (room temperature)

- 1 ½ teaspoons cream of tartar

- ½ teaspoon salt

- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

- ½ cup (120ml) water

Steps:

1. Prep: Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C). Grease and flour a 10-inch tube pan; do not line it.

2. Sift Dry Ingredients: Whisk together sifted flour, ¾ cup sugar, salt, and cream of tartar in a bowl; set aside.

3. Whip Egg Whites: In a clean, grease-free bowl, beat egg whites with an electric mixer until frothy. Gradually add remaining ¾ cup sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, beating until stiff, glossy peaks form (about 5–7 minutes). Beat in vanilla and water.

4. Fold in Flour: Gently fold the flour mixture into the egg whites in three batches, using a spatula to retain air. Do not overmix.

5. Bake: Pour batter into the pan, smoothing the top. Bake for 45–55 minutes until golden and a toothpick comes out clean. Invert the pan and let cool completely before removing.

Serving Tips: Serve with fresh berries, whipped cream, or a dusting of powdered sugar. Enjoy this guilt-free treat—no butter or oil needed!
