How to Make Braised Cabbage with Tofu: A Simple Guide

Braised cabbage with tofu is a comforting, nutritious dish loved for its delicate flavors and ease of preparation. Here’s a step-by-step guide to making it perfectly.

Ingredients:

- 1 medium cabbage, cored and chopped

- 1 block (300g) firm tofu, cubed

- 2 cloves garlic, minced

- 1 tbsp soy sauce

- 1 tsp sesame oil

- Salt and pepper to taste

- 2 tbsp vegetable oil

- Optional: a pinch of sugar for balance, or sliced mushrooms for extra umami.

Instructions:

1. Prep: Pat tofu dry with paper towels to prevent sogginess. Heat oil in a wok or deep pan over medium heat. Lightly fry tofu cubes until golden on all sides (about 3-4 minutes), then set aside.

2. Sauté Aromatics: In the same pan, add minced garlic and stir-fry until fragrant (30 seconds). Add cabbage, stir-frying until it wilts slightly (2-3 minutes).

3. Simmer: Return tofu to the pan. Pour in soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Add 2-3 tablespoons of water (or broth) to prevent sticking.

4. Cook: Cover and simmer on low heat for 5-7 minutes, allowing flavors to meld. Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking. If using mushrooms, add them now.

5. Serve: Taste and adjust seasoning. Serve hot with steamed rice for a wholesome meal.

This versatile dish can be customized with chili flakes for spice or carrots for color. Enjoy its light, savory goodness in just 20 minutes!
