How to Make Steamed Meatloaf with Egg: A Simple Guide

Steamed meatloaf with egg is a comforting, nutrient-packed dish enjoyed in many households. Here’s a basic yet versatile recipe to get you started.

Ingredients:

- 200g ground pork or chicken (mix fat and lean for best texture)

- 3 eggs

- 2 tbsp light soy sauce

- 1 tsp sesame oil

- 1 tbsp starch (cornstarch or potato starch)

- 1 small ginger, minced (optional)

- Salt and white pepper to taste

- Green onions for garnish

Steps:

1. Prepare the meat mixture: In a bowl, combine ground meat, soy sauce, sesame oil, starch, minced ginger, salt, and white pepper. Stir vigorously for 5 minutes until sticky and well-marinated.

2. Set up the steamer: Grease a heatproof dish. Spread half the meat mixture evenly at the bottom.

3. Add the egg: Gently crack 3 eggs over the meat, poking the yolks slightly if you prefer them well-done.

4. Layer and steam: Cover the remaining meat mixture over the eggs. Steam over high heat for 20–25 minutes until the meat is cooked through and the egg is set.

5. Finish: Garnish with chopped green onions. Drizzle with extra soy sauce or chili oil if desired.

Tips: For extra flavor, add diced mushrooms or water chestnuts to the meat mixture. Ensure the water in the steamer is boiling before placing the dish in to ensure even cooking. This dish pairs perfectly with rice or congee, making it a perfect meal for any time of day.
