How to Make Perfect Red Bean Bread Rolls

Red bean bread rolls, a beloved treat combining soft bread with sweet red bean paste, are easier to make than you think. Here’s a simple guide to crafting these delicious pastries at home.

Ingredients: For the dough, you’ll need 300g all-purpose flour, 3g yeast, 30g sugar, 1 egg, 120ml warm milk, 30g butter, and a pinch of salt. For the filling, use 200g sweet red bean paste (store-bought or homemade).

Steps:

1. Activate yeast: Mix yeast with warm milk and a pinch of sugar; let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.

2. Make dough: Combine flour, sugar, salt, egg, and yeast mixture. Knead into a smooth dough, then add softened butter and knead until elastic (about 10 minutes).

3. First rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (1–1.5 hours).

4. Shape rolls: Punch down the dough, divide into 8 equal portions, and roll each into a circle. Spread red bean paste in the center, then fold edges over and seal tightly. Roll into a log shape.

5. Second rise: Place rolls on a baking sheet, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes.

6. Bake: Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Brush rolls with egg wash and bake for 15–18 minutes until golden. Cool slightly before serving.

Tips: For extra flavor, add a teaspoon of vanilla to the dough. Enjoy these rolls plain or dusted with powdered sugar!
