How to Make Purple Sweet Potato Bread: A Complete Guide

Purple sweet potato bread, with its vibrant hue and natural sweetness, is a delightful treat. Here’s a simple guide to crafting this soft, flavorful loaf at home.

Ingredients:

- 300g bread flour, 50g mashed purple sweet potato (cooled), 30g sugar, 3g salt, 3g instant yeast, 1 egg, 120ml milk, 30g butter (softened).

Steps:

1. Prepare the dough: In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Add the mashed purple sweet potato, egg, and milk. Knead until a smooth, elastic dough forms (about 10 minutes).

2. First rise: Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (1–1.5 hours).

3. Shape and second rise: Punch down the dough, divide it into three equal parts, and roll each into a ball. Flatten slightly, roll into a rectangle, and roll up tightly like a Swiss roll. Place the rolls in a greased loaf pan. Cover and let rise again for 45 minutes.

4. Bake: Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Brush the top with milk or egg wash for a glossy finish. Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown. Tap the bottom—if it sounds hollow, it’s done.

5. Cool: Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Tips: For extra flavor, add a sprinkle of cinnamon or chopped walnuts. Enjoy it plain or with butter for a perfect breakfast or snack!
