How to Make Caterpillar Bread: A Simple Guide

Caterpillar bread, a fun and kid-friendly treat, is easy to make with basic ingredients. Here’s a simple guide to create this adorable snack.

Ingredients:

For the dough: 3 cups flour, 1 cup warm milk, 2 tbsp sugar, 2 tsp active dry yeast, 1 egg, ½ tsp salt, 3 tbsp melted butter. For decoration: Cheese slices, raisins or chocolate chips, egg wash (1 egg + 1 tbsp milk).

Steps:

1. Activate yeast: Mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.

2. Make dough: In a bowl, combine flour, salt, egg, and yeast mixture. Knead until smooth, then add butter and knead for 5-7 minutes. Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled.

3. Shape the caterpillar: Punch down the dough and divide into 1 large ball (head) and 8 small balls (body). Roll small balls into ropes, 4-5 inches long.

4. Assemble: Place the large ball on a baking sheet. Arrange the ropes in a line, attaching them slightly to the head and each other. Brush with egg wash.

5. Decorate: Use cheese slices for eyes, raisins/chocolate chips for antennae and spots.

6. Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

Enjoy your delicious caterpillar bread fresh from the oven! It’s perfect for parties or a playful breakfast.
