How to Make Fish Head Tofu Soup: A Simple Guide

Fish head tofu soup is a beloved, nutrient-rich dish enjoyed for its delicate flavor and comforting warmth. Here’s a basic recipe to get you started:

Ingredients: 1 large fish head (cleaned and halved), 1 block firm tofu (cubed), 1 ginger slice (julienned), 2 green onions (chopped), 1 tbsp cooking oil, salt, white pepper, and 4 cups water or broth.

Steps:

1. Prep the Fish: Rinse the fish head under cold water and pat dry. Season lightly with salt.

2. Sear the Fish: Heat oil in a pot over medium heat. Sear the fish head for 2-3 minutes until golden, then flip and sear the other side. This removes excess fishiness and enhances flavor.

3. Simmer: Add ginger and water/broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer. Cover and cook for 10 minutes.

4. Add Tofu: Gently add tofu cubes. Simmer for another 5–7 minutes until the tofu is soft and absorbs the broth.

5. Season: Add salt, white pepper, and most of the green onions. Simmer briefly. Garnish with remaining green onions before serving.

Variations: For a spicier kick, add dried chilies. For a richer broth, use dashi or fish sauce. Some also add mushrooms or tomatoes for extra depth.

Enjoy this steaming bowl of soup, perfect for chilly days or family meals!
